This drink is one of the Boothby Top 50 Drinks of the Year 2022 — you can see the full Top 50 here.

The era of disco drinks, of Highball 'cocktails' and gauchely named concoctions — we'll refer to that period as arch 1970s — didn't do a lot for taste.

The Sea Breeze was no exception: little more than a juicy highball of vodka, cranberry juice, and grapefruit, it was an efficient way of getting one's buzz on and that's about it.

But this riff from Double Deuce Lounge in Sydney is so much more. It's more complex, offers a drier palate, and feels sophisticated whilst never letting go of the one good lesson the era of disco drinks taught us: drinks ought to be fun.
