I’ve just returned from three nights in Bangkok — what a city that place is. The drinks, the hospitality, and the bevy of unique concepts the city has to offer might just make it the most exciting bar city in the world right now.
Speaking of hospitality, how abominal is the experience arriving home to Sydney Airport and working one’s way through customs? It’s an omnishambles, and if you don’t speak English, you’d be hard-pressed to work out which queue to join and what the system is. If first impressions are everything, it’s a dreadful arrival, and more proof that we could all use a little more hospitality in our lives.
Rant over - a big briefing for you this morning. Two new bars from one of Sydney’s best operators are on the way. Details below.
In this briefing:
- tips on drinks travel from international PR maven Jess Fitzgerald;
- details on who is opening in the old Double Deuce Lounge space, what the bar is called, and when it will open;
- the first word on what’s next for The Midnight Special site in Newtown;
- the recipe for El Primo Sanchez’s Banana Daiquiri — it is really very good!
Sydney is a little over one month away from the debut of Bar Bridge, which will open in the basement space at 6 Bridge Street in the Uptown precinct of the city. The space is perhaps better known as being the home to award-winning cocktail bar, Double Deuce Lounge, since 2019, before they closed the bar in January this year.
So who is behind the new venture, Bar Bridge?
