Welcome back to Boothby’s Singapore briefing — and a bonus instalment of sorts, because we’re recapping the first SGCX Bar Awards.

On Monday 8 June, and as something of a preamble to the Singapore Cocktail Crossover happening this week (you can read more about that here), Singapore’s bar community got together to celebrate the industry for the first SGCX Singapore Bar Awards — we were there to cover it, and you can see the results below.

And a reminder, too: you can access all our Singapore and Asia stories at boothby.asia, along with each edition of this email briefing. In the meantime, do give us a follow on Instagram at @boothbydrinks, and send any tips, intel, or feedback to me direct at sam@boothby.com.au. I’d love to hear from you.

On Monday night here in Singapore, in the grand surrounds of the Shangri-La’s ballroom, the best of the Singapore bar industry got together to celebrate their peers and the city’s unique contribution to the global bar scene.

The city’s bartenders got together to swap stories, share drinks, and cheer on the Top 30 Singapore bars in the first SGCX Bar Awards.

It’s the big industry event before the even bigger week of events in store for the Singapore Cocktail Crossover, and there was a great collaborative and celebratory spirit in the room.

Now, the number one bar on the night was... well, I can’t tell you because the list is unranked, with a top five being carved out and celebrated — but no number one per se.

It’s an admirable message from the co-founders, who are looking to encourage some greater community spirit for the bars here.

That said, there were some big awards handed out on the night.

Origin Bar at the Shangri-La won the Art of Hospitality award, along with the honour of Best Hotel Bar, and Bar Team of the Year, while Origin Bar bartender Cherry Lee picked up a trophy for the Emerging Bartender of the Year.

The Jigger & Pony Group also did well, picking up the trophies for Best New Bar for the Korean-inspired bar, Bartenders of Pony, as well as taking home the Bartender of the Year trophy thanks to BOP’s Uno Jang.

The Menu Design of the Year trophy went to Nutmeg & Clove, and Bar Somma was named the Best Restaurant Bar.
