There’s a new member of the Jack Daniel’s family: Jack Daniel’s Blackberry. Created by Jack Daniel’s with a blackberry liqueur, the new bottling weighs in at 35 percent ABV, and — as Jack Daniel’s brand ambassador Andy Tsai explains in the chat below — there’s more than a few ways you can use it behind the bar.

Below, lightly edited and condensed for clarity, Andy explains just what Jack Daniel’s Blackberry is, shares two simple recipes, and highlights the Old Blacksmith No 7 cocktail from Glebe bar The Little Guy.

Let’s get into it.

BOOTHBY: Andy, you’re the Jack Daniel’s brand ambassador for Australia, we’re here at The Little Guy in Glebe, and you’ve got a new bottling to introduce us to.

ANDY TSAI: Yes, we’re sitting here at The Little Guy in Glebe, which is scheduled to reopen and relaunch in a couple of months, which we’re very excited about. But look, we have the newest member of our family, the Jack Daniel’s Blackberry, and we cannot wait to share it with you.

BOOTHBY: Tell us about it? What makes it different?

ANDY TSAI: So the Jack Daniel’s Blackberry is Old No. 7 at its heart. It is the classic black label, but we make a liqueur, with locally sourced blackberries.

That is what gives it all the flavour, and we say it’s the only blackberry that’s bursting with Jack.

BOOTHBY: How should bartenders think about using it? How would you drink it?

ANDY TSAI: I think Jack Daniel’s Blackberry is perfect to sip on its own, but it’s also amazing for that sundown occasion. We want it to be real easy for the folks at home to make their drinks. So very simply, you put 45 to 60ml of this in with lemonade and a little squeeze of fresh lemon and it just sings. It loves to be in simple summer style drinks, refreshing serves with lemonade, or in a Bramble.

BOOTHBY: Can you give us your tasting notes?

ANDY TSAI: With Jack Daniel’s Blackberry, you get that beautiful, big bouquet of blackberries up front, and then you get that classic signature caramel and vanilla of Jack Daniel’s, followed by a beautiful, lingering toasted rich oak.
